Post High School Planning

Planning for after high school is an exciting prospect, but it can also be overwhelming. Your school counselor (Hailey) is here to support you through the process whether you are applying to 4 year college, 2 year college, trade programs, joining the military, or looking for employment. 

FHHS Programming to Prepare Students

  • Annual school wide Futures Fair event (2&4 year college reps & military recruiters come to campus)

  • Career Prep & Career Success classes
  • College application essay writing workshops hosted summer after junior year
  • Exploring aptitudes and career interests through SchoolLinks 
  • Financial aid & application process presentations in junior/senior year Advisory class
  • Internship & Worksite Learning classes
  • Parent presentations for junior & senior parents on the college process 
  • PSAT test taken by all students grades 9-11 annually
  • Local scholarship program spring of senior year
  • Trade exploration field trips
  • 1:1 meetings with the school counselor fall of senior year to discuss individual plans/applications
     

To Do's

9th grade

  • Participate in Futures Fair
  • Complete SchoolLinks assignments to begin exploring aptitudes/interests

10th grade

  • Take Career Prep or Career Success in order to be able to do an Internship junior or senior year (it's a prerequisite)
  • Start considering schools/programs you migh be interested in after high school

11th grade

  • Do an internship to try out a job you're interested in
  • Narrow down the list of places you are interested in attending by the end of junior year
  • Take the SAT spring of junior year (4 year college only)
  • Visit campuses on school breaks (this is the best way to know if somewhere is a good fit for you)

12th grade

  • Know where you will apply by fall of senior year (4-8 schools)
  • Take the SAT again if needed in the fall
  • Complete the FAFSA in October (financial aid)
  • 4 year applications due November-February
  • 2 year applications due March-May
  • Apply for scholarships
